They go together like Thelma and Louise… like Brad and Angelina… like Beyonce and Jay Z. You can look at it any way you want, but a great result from liposuction only comes along with the firm “squeeze” of a high-quality compression garment. Here are the Top 3 Reasons why it’s so important.

#1 To Minimize Swelling, Bruising, and Pain
Well-made surgical compression garments from companies like Veronique and Marena, are designed to provide the perfect amount of squeeze uniformly across your body. This keeps swelling in check, closes off all the tiny capillaries that were damaged during the surgery, and gives you some support to keep discomfort to a minimum. Without the garment, swelling can get out of control fairly quickly, which leads to tense skin, irritated nerve fibers, and damaged blood vessels that can ooze longer than necessary. Since a garment helps minimize all of these things, it lets your recover quicker, and makes the whole process much more enjoyable.
#2 To Prevent Skin Dimpling
For about 4-6 weeks after surgery, your body will be working overtime to heal. Just as you form a scar to mend a cut on your finger, you also form scar tissue under your skin after you have liposuction. That scar tissue is like a new scaffolding for a building, and you are the head contractor. If you let just any Joe Schmo go to work on your scaffold, it would probably start to expand in all kinds of crazy directions that won’t take any defined shape. As the contractor, you have to limit your workers to the most qualified guys who will get the job done right. A compression garment is like your site manager, and it keeps an eye on your team of little “worker” cells that are in charge of building the scar scaffold. Since you’re in charge, it’s your job to make sure the garment is not always hanging out on a coffee break. Without the garment, your unchecked”workers” will be building scar tissue all over the place, and that’s how you wind up with dimples, wrinkles, and depressions in your skin. These irregularities are still possible even if you wear your garment, they occur far less often if your “manager” isn’t lounging around.
#3 To Encourage Saggy Skin to Shrink
Just as the garment helps the scar scaffold take shape, it also guides saggy skin in the right direction. It’s natural for skin to sag after the fat is sucked out from underneath it, and without the right guidance it doesn’t always know where to go. Compression helps it shrink and contract so that it eventually looks like the fat was never there. The garment doesn’t guarantee that all the skin will tighten up, but it certainly helps it happen more consistently.
Wearing a high-quality compression garment is almost as important as the surgery itself. If you choose not to wear your garment, even the best plastic surgeon can’t give you a perfect result. Liposuction is all about the way things heal, not about the way the fat is sucked out, so in many ways you actually play the most important role in how good your final result will be.
Trust us, if you make your compression garment your main squeeze for 4-6 weeks after the procedure, you’ll look so good that you and your little workers will be getting busy on all sorts of new projects!

Hi! I am looking to have lipo before this summer and was excited to see the blog! Since its getting warmer will I be too hot in one of the “garments” you mentioned? Would spanx be enough?
Summer is a tougher time to have liposuction, especially if you are planning on having a large area done, but it’s definitely possible. The compression garments are breathable and soft, but they do add an extra layer under your clothing. Garments are even more important if you are set on having the procedure in the summer because warmer weather makes you more swollen, and without the garment you’ll balloon up in no time. If summer is the only time you can get the procedure done, go for it. You won’t regret it, even if you are a little toasty in your garment.
Spanx won’t cut it. Surgical compression garments are made to provide a perfectly uniform amount of pressure that prevents skin dimples and irregularities from forming as you heal. Spanx are NOT designed to do that, and they can actually create skin wrinkles and dimples because they are not specifically engineered to produce a uniform squeeze. In addition, the usually don’t offer enough of a squeeze to keep swelling under control, and they lose their squeeze pretty quickly if you wear them all day every day.
If you are going to make the investment to pay for the procedure, don’t cut corners with your garment. Get the best, and if you’re getting it done in the summertime, get a few of them so you can trade them off to give them a wash.

hi i am currently 6 days post liposuction on my abdomen. I have been wearing the compression garment everyday and found that the swelling has reduced significantly however, my lower abdomen is saggy and wrinkly…is this normally the case post lipo? and will this smooth out over time? thanks
Hi there! Wrinkly saggy skin can be normal after liposuction if you had somewhat saggy skin to begin with, and especially if you had a lot of stretch marks before the procedure. It may or may not go away, so check with your surgeon to make sure you’re doing everything possible to smooth it out. In the meantime, just make sure your garment is always perfectly smooth… wrinkles and folds in the garment will translate into wrinkles and folds in your skin, and they can heal that way permanently.
Heya excellent website! Does running a blog similar to this require a large amount of work?
I’ve no expertise in computer programming but I was hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyhow, if you have any ideas or tips for new
blog owners please share. I understand this is off subject however I
just wanted to ask. Cheers!
I’m having a full tummy tuck , a BBL and Lipo of the back, flanks, abdomen , hips, sacral area and possibly inner thighs. What compression garment will give me firmest compression I need for the tummy tuck, but also provides min-moderate compression needed for the buttocks area? I’ve seen garments with holes cut out of them but from what I’ve read I need some type of compression in that area
